Padum, capital of Zanskar is accessible from Kargil that you can reach either from Leh Ladakh or from Srinagar, Kashmir. You have a distance of about 450 km from Leh and this will take you almost two days with a night stop mid-way. Zanskar is also reachable on foot (multi-day treks with crossing of high passes) from Darcha, Chilling and Lamayuru.
June to September is the best time to visit Zanskar. But you can even consider a visit from April and up to October. Some of the treks are only doable in late season because of the difficult river crossing due to melting snow in early season.
